Join SAVE and Lettie on this special walking tour of the Regent’s Park. Learn the in-depth story of its history and architecture. Walk around the park on this 2-hour tour, enjoying its many villas, terraces, and other features such as Queen Mary’s Garden, the Regent’s Canal, and serpentine lake. As we go, we will learn about the park’s development from Tudor hunting ground to public space and meet the key figures involved in its design; John Nash, James and Decimus Burton and of course the figure of the Prince Regent, later George IV, himself. As the walk unfolds, we will see how plans for the land did too, from Nash’s earliest scheme for an extensive residential development that was gradually scaled back by The Crown Estate so that what we are left with is Nash’s elegant solution, a domestic park that embodies the spirit of the picturesque and has been the model for garden suburbs ever since.
